Adoption of Bill 92 in Quebec

Adoption of Bill 92 in Quebec

For a long time, Quebec was the only province where pharmacists could omit mentioning their fees on their bills. Incidentally, Quebec is one of the provinces where margins on drugs are highest, raising the cost of group insurance plans. September 15, 2017, plan members will be better informed about the real costs associated with their prescription drugs, as pharmacists will be required to provide the following information on receipts:

  1. Price billed for each drug
  2. Pharmacist’s dispensing fees
  3. Wholesaler mark-up

The new measure should help keep prescription drug plan costs in check and ensure plan sustainability. For example, Quebec insureds will be able to use tools for comparing prescription drug prices as other Canadians do, so they can make better-informed decisions.
